  The Eastchester Community Action Program. (ECAP) assist low and fixed income families residing in Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe through its various programs and services. The ECAP staff deals with all types of issues that are then referred to other agencies by carefully following through until the needed services can be attained. We are able to help by working closely with local agencies such as tuckahoe Housing Authority, Public Health Nursing Organization, Mental Health Clinic and the Senior Citizen Centers.

Services

Home Energy Assistant Program (HEAP)
   Applications from the Office of the Aging in White Plains are sent out to help individuals who experience an energy related financial crisis during the heating season. These individuals must be within the poverty guide-lines set forth by the Federal Government and E.C.A.P. and then sent to the central office with proper documentations. From there applications are foewarded to Albany for final approval and payment.
Emergency Food Pantry
   This program is designed to assist the residents of Tuckahoe, Eastchester and Bronxville, who for various reasons are unable to feed themselves or their family during an emergency crisis. This may include fire victims or persons on a fixed income who are without food. Anyone who wishes to utilize this program must fill out the proper forms and have a valid reason or need to be eligible. All cases and request for assistance are evaluated by the Area Director, who gives approval. Enough food is given to last one week.
Outreach Assistance

Going into the community seeking those who might need help and making the community more aware that the Eastchester Community Action Program is there to assist them in any possible way.

Afterschool Tutoring Class
To help inprove younsters academic skills where needed with assistance by high school and college students
Bread and Pastries
Donations of bread & pastries are given to E.C.A.P. center every day for distribution to the residents of the communities.
Thrift Shop
Donation of used clothing and furniture are given to the needy in the local areas.
Food Pantry
A variety of food, enough for three meals which consist of breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Summer Recreation
During the summer months the S.Y.E.P. Youth Workers and the Youth Programs Director hold recreational activities at the Main Street Playground. These activities are for boys & girls 7 years and older and are held on a daily basis, (weather permitting).
SOS (Save Our Sons)
S.O.S. is a group of community men from diverse backgrounds who have come together with express purpose of providing an arena to bridge the gap between the adult men and the young men of our community.
Swimming
Thursdays from 12:00noon to 3:00pm networking with Eastchester Recreational Departments Youth Director of Main Street Playground as Chaperone to Lake Isle Park.
Summer Trips
These trips are funded by the Community Fund of Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe. During the months of July and August, trips are planned for youths ages 6-13 years old. The trips are for educational as well as cultural purposes. Children are taken to places such as Bear Mountain, Bronx Zoo and playland.
Movie Time
Every Friday from 3:00pm to 5:00pm a movie is shown for the youngsters entertainment. Each week one of the children will bring in a movie of their choice.
Open Door Service
Eastchester CAP provides on-going open door services for all residents of the community. The door is always opened for anyone who wants to come in and talk about a problem
Thanksgiving Drive
Each year, in October, Eastchester CAP begins its annual thanksgiving drive, monetary donations are solicited throughout the communities. Contributions of canned goods and non-perishable foods are received from schools and churches who at our request help in the drive. Fresh produce is bought with the monetary contributions. Boxes are put together for needy families, disadvantage individuals and seniors who are on a low or fixed income.
Annual Children's Christmas Party
Eastchester CAP gives a Christmas party for yoongsters ages 6-12 years old. Community friends, organizations and churches send gifts, which are wrapped and distributed by Santa Claus to the children. The Christmas party provides toys and games to the youngsters.
